Brent Lamphier , owner of Prairie Oakwood Flooring is the worst contractor I've ever hired. Initially, I contacted him about refinishing hardwood floors. I also gave him the job of installing laminate floor on a concrete floor in a family room, and installing tile in 2 bathrooms. Further, he planned to plumb a tub/shower in one bath and a shower in the other. As a surprise for me, he re-routed the drain for a washing machine. At the end of 31 days, on 8/25/14, the hardwood floors had the first coat on them but he had failed to clean out the corners so there was dirt and old finish in every corner and under a built-in buffet, the walls were gouged and scraped . The laminate flooring was installed directly on concrete instead of over a vapor barrier and he had cut the flooring too close to the walls so the flooring couldn't expand and contract appropriately. When he did the plumbing in the laundry, he put a "y" in backwards and failed to put in a "p" trap so that didn't meet code. He also installed bullnose stair tread on one step going down to the sunken family room but that made the step much deeper to the family room level so it was a hazard. When I asked him about the plumbing and questioned whether the stair was up to code, he threw a tool across the room and began screaming at me. I'm a woman, a senior citizen just shy of 70 years old, a foot shorter than he is, and a good 80 pounds lighter. He scared me and was standing over the top of me, screaming. Spit was flying, his face was red and he would not back away from me. I had my phone in my pocket and I called 911. He screamed all the time I was on the phone with 911 and left my home just moments before the police arrived. When he came back the next day to get his tools and settle up, I had 2 male friends with me just in case and I paid him what he asked just to avoid any further trouble. I paid far more than his work was worth to get rid of him. Later I had licensed plumbers come in to check his work and they explained what a messed up job he had done. The laminate floor was completely removed and the hardwood floor had to be finished by someone else.
